About Sports Medicine Institute

Professional-level care for all levels of athletes.

Franciscan St. Anthony Health Sports Medicine Institute (SMI) was created to provide athletes here in Northwest Indiana the same level of professional care that is provided to college and professional athletes.  SMI services include

  • Sports Performance which provides training in strength and conditioning and athletic movement to athletes of all levels and ages.
  • Sports Medicine and Training from our team of Physicians, Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers to provide first-class care to injured athletes and to help athletes return to play at the top of their game.

The SMI Philosophy

Sports Performance provides a supportive, structured environment where athletes are provided the training they need to develop as an athlete and to reach their potential to perform at their best.

Our objectives are to:

  • Increase explosive power and strength for improved performance.
  • Improve linear and lateral quickness, speed and agility.
  • Increase work capacity for reduced time to fatigue and increased fitness.
  • Reduce the potential for injury during sport.
  • Educate the athlete in proper training techniques to train safely.
  • Promote self-confidence through a positive environment and positive outcomes.

Our clients and athletes represent all ages from grade school to high school, college to professional, and adults. If you’d like to learn more about how we can help you, please review our programs.

What does the training consist of?

Our Sports Performance programs are focused on teaching each athlete correct training techniques, reducing injury potential and improving overall athletic performance and movement.  Each training session consists of warm-up, movement, power, strength, injury reduction, and conditioning.

How long does the training last?

Each seasonal program (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer) runs for approximately 12 weeks and each workout is from 1.5 to 2 hours long.
